Enchanted Challenge Owls

This month’s challenge piece is a magical Ojime Owl.

Ojime beads originated in Japan as a carved detailed bead to accompany Netsuke carvings so that the small items could be hung from the belts of a Kimono.

The accompanying journal entry in the book talks about hills and the color of the land, and magical beasts.

“She told us of  stories of her youth, about being wild in her mother’s country and the dangers of dragons.”

This month’s project is based on the magical owls that are living in the rafters.

The owl itself is fairly straight forward polymer clay with crystal bead eyes and acrylic paint patina. The string this necklace I delved into my stash of pre-strung chain that I purchased from a clearance sale a few years back.
