Coloring on Vacation

Like a lot of people, I like to color while I relax.

Let’s be honest I color to relax. And I do take coloring with me when I go on vacation trips.

Last year I took coloring books to the Bahamas.

There are a bazillion ways to carry your coloring around with you.

My favorite craft tote is this open top craft tote (the one in the picture is by Mackinac Moon) I have a bunch of these. I have one for coloring, one for Polymer clay, one for metal clay, and a bunch I just cycle in and out of. If I could use this for a purse I would.

You can find them online, or typically in the storage section of your local craft store.

These totes are great because you can store a clipboard and coloring books. And it has a ton of pockets for all the other supplies. The huge benefit is the only drawback to this tote–its open top. That’s not so handy when you’re traveling by plane, or anywhere you have to drag your luggage around, and you need everything to stay inside. But it is fantastic for car trips, and day trips to the lake or park or back yard.

Now, I do limit what I take when traveling with coloring, I can’t take all of it with me.

I carefully choose which books I’m going to color in–coloring in my own books is work, so I try not to take those unless I’m desperately behind on Etsy posts.

I use school project folders to transport loose single pages that I want to work on

And I limit my techniques, so I’m only taking a box or two of colored pencils, crayons, or markers.

I always have a pencil sharpener with me.

And if I’m taking water color pencils, I have a baggie of cotton swabs that comes with.

Remember you can always toss your coloring books and a pack of markers into any tote bag and be good to go, the key is to take it with you and have fun and relax!
