Enchanted Challenge: Treasure Heart

This hollow formed heart with encased resin treasures took multiple steps.

The projects are more complex now, so you have to plan ahead. You can’t get them done in one sitting. And since resin and I are having relationship issues, I really need to work ahead on the resin projects.

I made the polymer clay heart first. Cured it based on manufacturer’s instructions.

Then I played around for a while with what to fill it with.
This was tricky, the options are endless.

I ended up with some tiny dragonfly beads and big decorative glitter bits.

I taped the side up as directed and began the resin filling process. I did the resin at the same time I did the resin for the fairy wings. This way I didn’t waste any resin in either project, and it gave me the chance to layer the resin in. The layering allowed me to float the sparkles and the glass at different levels, adding to the appearance of depth within the heart. This meant I ended up doing 4 layers, because what I thought was the last layer stayed sticky, so I had to coat it again.

the tape left a frosted effect on the back

When working with resin, make sure you work on a well-protected surface. Cover your resin projects carefully to protect them from dust, and leave a little cap filled with resin to check for dryness, that way you don’t accidentally leave finger prints on your project, but you have something you can touch and check (because you are going to want to!) that won’t get ruined.
