Aluminum Ball

I’m not sure if you’ve seen this or not, but apparently, some guy in Japan turned a package of aluminum foil back into a shiny polished aluminum ball, and people went nuts and started doing it too.

this is the first video I saw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7bs7mcBuzc

And then the internet went nuts
Seriously, the amount of videos is crazy! Just check out Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=aluminum+ball+polishing

People went nuts! They made the balls, they microwaved them, they put them in hydraulic presses, they cut them in half, they put them through shredders.

I’m not immune to the hype, I just didn’t have the time to jump on that bandwagon right away. That’s why all those videos are dated about 9 months ago.

All I can say is the folks who went out and filmed themselves making a ball have a better focus and more time than I currently do to dedicate to this undertaking.

This is after a little 2 hours in. I started with 27 square feet of foil, I wrapped and squished and then I started pounding with a rawhide mallet. It has this weird lettuce leaf edge thing going on. I’m not sure what to do with it. I might have to wrap another layer around it just to pull it all in together.

I didn’t spend nearly as much time with the ball peen hammer as I did the mallet.
Who knows when or if I will get around to finishing and polishing.
